Report: Oklahoma State Hires Vance Vice to Coach Offensive Line, Several Position Coaching Positions Filled

UPDATE: A new report has surfaced that Cooper Bassett and Andrew Mitchell will be OSU’s co-offensive line coaches. 

Mike Gundy’s retooled coaching staff is getting more and more orange.

According to a report from Robert Allen, OSU is set to hire Vance Vice as its new offensive line coach. Vice played tight end and defensive end at Oklahoma State and was teammates with both Gundy and newly named offensive coordinator Doug Meacham.

Since then, however, Vice has coached all over college football. He’s coached the OL, specifically, at Murray State, Illinois State, ULM, Memphis, Virginia Tech and UNLV, in that order. OSU hired him out of Vegas where he’s spent the last two seasons.

In his two seasons with the Runnin’ Rebels, UNLV ranked first and then second, respectively, in scoring offense in the Mountain West. And from Years 1 to 2, he helped raise its rushing offense from ranked sixth in the conference to second last year.

Charlie Dickey coached the Cowboys’ offensive line from 2019 to 2024.

That same report also included a pair of staff moves to address the Cowboys’ secondary. Greg Brown was promoted from analyst to safeties coach while OSU hired Kevie Thompson to coach nickelbacks. Jules Montinar was previously reported to be hired to coach its cornerbacks.

Brown previously worked with newly named defensive coordinator Todd Grantham when he coached Louisville’s secondary from 2014-15 while Grantham was assistant head coach and DC. Thompson has spent the last three years as the defensive coordinator at East Mississippi State Community College. He also has a tie to Grantham, serving as a volunteer assistant at Florida in 2018.

OSU also reportedly hired Ryan McNamara to assist linebackers coach Kap Dede, who was reportedly set to be hired earlier this week.

Other hires reported to Meacham’s offensive staff include DJ Tialavea as tight ends coach and Kevin Johns as QB coach.
