Oklahoma State Lands Utah State Tight End Will Monney

The Cowboys added their third tight end by way of the transfer portal.

Oklahoma State landed former Utah State tight end Will Monney, with Monney announcing his decision Monday night after 247Sports’ McClain Baxley reported the likelihood this past weekend.

Monney went to Utah State from nearby Springville, Utah. The three-star prospect had just two offers, but he didn’t take long to make an impact in a crowded tight end room. As a true freshman he saw the field in 12 games, and then in Year 2 he took a big step forward.

He was the youngest of a trio of tight ends to be featured in Utah State’s offense last season. Behind seniors Josh Sterzer and Broc Lane, the 6-foot-4, 230-pound sophomore still reeled in 11 catches for 138 yards and a score. His 12.6 yards per catch led the position. He ended the season on a high note with four catches for 55 yards (both career highs) and a touchdown in Utah State’s 55-10 win against Hawaii.

Monney is the third tight end the Cowboys have secured from the portal this offseason following Central Arkansas transfer Jordan Owens and North Texas transfer Oscar Hammond. New OSU tight ends coach DJ Tialavea is quite familiar with Monney, as OSU hired Tialavea from Utah State this offseason.
