OSU Softball: Cowgirls Defeat Baylor 9-5 to Even Weekend Series
The Cowgirls flipped the game on its head with a six-run fourth inning. Ruby Meylan moves to 11-2.
Momentum can swing quickly when you have the Cowgirls’ bats. It also helps to have an ace like Ruby Meylan.
No. 13 Oklahoma State defeated Baylor 9-5, rebounding from a 1-0 loss to the Bears on Friday.
The Cowgirls fell into an early 3-0 hole, but a six-run fourth inning turned things around. And Ruby Meylan kept the Bears at bay long enough to take advantage.
A day after outhitting but losing to the Bears, the Cowgirls made much better use of their swings. OSU had five hits to Baylor’s four on Friday but lost 1-0. On Saturday, they Cowgirls turned 12 hits into nine runs. The Bears had five on eight.
Baylor did all the early scoring, taking a 1-0 lead in the first and then pushing that lead to 3-0 in the third on a Karynton Dawson (1-for-4) double that scored a pair.
Things started to change for the Cowgirls in the third. Amanda Hasler (1-for-1) dug deep in the strike zone to get a piece of one and launched it over the left-field wall to make it 3-1.

Then the Cowgirls sprang to life with a six-run fourth inning to take control of the game. The inning started when Micaela Wark (1-for-3) cranked her own homer to left field to make it 3-2 with no outs.

The Cowgirls were able to load the bases with just one out. After reaching for a home run on her last at-bat, Hasler hung through a patient full-count walk to send the game-tying run across home plate.
Then Megan Delgadillo (3-for-4) rocked a two-RBI double and immediately did the floss, which I am told by my daughter is a popular dance move.
Well worth the wait.

Tallen Edwards (2-for-4) immediately stepped to the plate and did the same thing, all the way down to the aforementioned dance move.

Hasler was responsible for three scoring plays despite just going 1-for-1 at the plate. After her solo homer and her bases-loaded walk, Hasler then had a sac fly in the fifth to score Tia Warsop, pushing OSU’s lead to 8-3.
Baylor’s top hitter Shaylon Govan took her third walk of the day to load the bases with two outs in the top of the sixth, putting a little bit of pressure on OSU ace Ruby Meylan. Turiya Coleman chopped one down in the infield, and Meylan ran after it but her wild throw over first base made for two unearned runs, allowing Baylor to within 8-5 and bringing the tying run to the plate. But that was the worst of the damage. Meylan struck the last Baylor batter out swinging and then closed the game on a 1-2-3 seventh inning.
Rosie Davis (1-for-3) pushed the Cowgirls’ lead to 9-5 with her RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.

Katie Kutz started for the Cowgirls in the circle, but after giving up her second and third runs in the top of the third, Meylan came in to finish out the inning. She would pitch the final fourth and a third innings of the game and move to 11-2, allowing two hits for two runs, striking out three and walking two.
