Ruby Meylan Climbs up OSU Record Books with Win Over Utah
The Cowgirls have won four of five.
Oklahoma State’s postseason path seems destined to look different than normal, but if the No. 23 Cowgirls (31-17, 11-9 Big 12) can end up in the same place, then pitcher Ruby Meylan will almost certainly have earned her place in the record books.
Meylan struck out 10-of-28 batters faced on Friday night while limiting Utah to five hits, one walk and four runs in a 7-4 Cowgirl win.
Meylan has struck out 220 batters this season, ranking 13th on the program’s all-time single-season list. Meylan’s season also ranks 12th all-time for OSU in strikeouts per seven innings (8.46). If she throws 10 more innings, Meylan would rank 20th in program history with 192.1 innings pitched this season.
Meylan’s arm kept the game within reach for Oklahoma State, allowing Micaela Wark to even the game up with a two-run homer in the fourth inning.
Megan Bloodworth, Megan Delgadillo and Tallen Edwards all doubled in the fifth to give the Cowgirls a 6-2 lead before Rosie Davis drove in Edwards with a single.
Claire Timm finished with a game-high three hits, including one double, followed by Delgadillo and Edwards, who each finished with two hits.
Oklahoma State has won four of its past five games for the first time since the beginning of April.
The series against Utah (13-37, 5-17 Big 12) resumes at 2 p.m. Saturday in Cowgirl Stadium.
