OSU Softball: Cowgirls’ Postseason Relevance Reflected in All-Conference Awards
The Big 12 announced its all-conference honors and the Cowgirls cleaned up.
STILLWATER — Even in a down year by the Cowgirls’ standards, the Big 12 softball awards handed out on Wednesday should remind everyone that Oklahoma State still has what it takes to make a deep postseason run.
Three Cowgirls were unanimous first-team selections. The selection was least surprising for pitcher Ruby Meylan, the only player in the conference to win three Big 12 Pitcher of the Week awards this season. This was Meylan’s third first-team all-conference honor after she earned two such distinctions at Washington.
Meylan ranked inside the top 10 nationally in strikeouts (225), innings pitched (189) and shutouts (six). Her ERA of 1.59 ranked 14th nationally and fourth in the conference.
Catcher Amanda Hasler joined Meylan on the first team. This was her first time earning an all-conference honor. Hasler led the Big 12 in slugging percentage (.936) in conference games and her 15 total home runs this season ranked fifth in the conference.
No other Cowgirl has more than eight home runs this season. Hasler’s batting average of .307 this season ranked sixth among OSU’s starting lineup.
Sophomore Rosie Davis rounded out the first-team trio after earning all-freshman honors last season. Davis leads Oklahoma State with 49 RBIs, putting her 18 ahead of the nearest Cowgirl and fourth overall among the Big 12.
The sophomore leads OSU with a .462 on-base percentage thanks partly to a team-high 28 walks. Her batting average of .352 also ranked second on the team.
Tia Warsop earned her first all-conference honor with a spot on the Big 12 second team after she recorded a team-best batting average of .364.
Oklahoma State then tied Baylor with a conference-best two players on the All-Defensive team. Megan Bloodworth and Tallen Edwards represented the Cowgirls on that list.
Bloodworth finished the regular season with a .972 fielding percentage in conference play with 71 opportunities, while Edwards was one of nine conference players with a 1.000 fielding percentage with at least 50 opportunities.
OSU faces Arizona State in the conference tournament on Thursday at 11 a.m.
