A little Bedlam broke out to start the match play portion of the NCAA Championship, and the Cowboys came out on top.

Oklahoma State beat Oklahoma 3.5-1.5 at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California. To get there, the Cowboys finished fourth in stroke play — a stroke ahead of the Sooners.

Ethan Fang, Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson and Preston Stout each won their respective matchups, pushing OSU into the national semifinal where they’ll do battle with Ole Miss later Tuesday afternoon.

Fang, a sophomore, was the first Cowboy to put a point on the board when he beat OU senior Drew Goodman. Fang finished up three with two holes to play. He jumped on Goodman early, winning the opening four holes. Goodman was able to push Fang’s lead down to two by the eighth hole, but it ballooned back up to a four-hole lead after Fang birdied the 11th, which proved to be too much for Goodman to overcome.

Fahlberg-Johnsson, only a freshman, put the Cowboys’ second point on the board when he beat PJ Maybank III by two holes. The pair played all 18, as Maybank went into the final hole down one, but Fahlberg-Johnsson closed well, parring the final hole to close the match.

Rising star sophomore Preston Stout finished OU off when he beat Jase Summy by two holes. Stout’s lead was as high as three when he birdied the par-five 10th. Summy trimmed that lead to two holes on the 14th but that was as close as Stout let him get. Stout hit a long put to close the match out.

In the other two matches, Gaven Lane fell to Ryder Cowan by three holes with two left, and Eric Lee and Clark Van Gaalen were tied through 14 when the team result was decided.

In search of their dozenth team national title, the Cowboys match up against Ole Miss in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Tuesday. To get there, the Rebels earned the last spot in match play but beat Arizona State, who finished first in stroke play after a playoff.

Florida and Virginia are in the other semifinal.
