Ollie Gordon Scores Touchdown in NFL Preseason Debut

Ollie had himself a mighty fine first preseason game.

Not long after Brennan Presley found paydirt for the first time as a professional, Ollie Gordon pushed his way into an NFL endzone, as well.

Gordon scored on a 1-yard run in the Miami Dolphins’ preseason opener against the Chicago Bears. The fourth-quarter score gave Miami a lead in a game that would end in a tie (how un-American).

Gordon was listed fourth on Miami’s initial (unofficial) depth chart that released earlier this week. Despite that, Gordon led the Dolphins in rushing during Sunday’s preseason opener, carrying eight times for 33 yards and the touchdown. He also caught a fourth-down pass at the end of the game that he turned into a 19-yard gain.

He also nearly housed the Dolphins lateral palooza to end the game.

While scoring a touchdown, Gordon also had the longest run of the game, going for 21 yards to close the third quarter. Gordon gave a little stutter step in the backfield before spinning out of a tackle near the line of scrimmage and striding up field.

De’Von Achane, Jaylen Wright and Alexander Mattison were listed ahead of Gordon on that initial depth chart. Achane carried just three times Sunday, but turned that into 22 yards at 7.3 yards a carry. Wright and Mattison each found the end zone, with Wright carrying nine times for 16 yards and Mattison three times for eight yards. Gordon’s 4.1 yards per carry was better than both of those two.

Gordon was a four-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class, committing to Oklahoma State over offers from Texas, Arkansas, Michigan, Texas Tech, TCU and others.

He took 62 handoffs as a true freshman in Stillwater, running for 308 yards and two touchdowns.

That preluded a national breakout for the bruising back. As a sophomore in 2023, Gordon led the country with 1,732 rushing yards to go with 21 touchdowns. He became OSU’s first Doak Walker winner, an award given to college football’s best running back.

Through three seasons and 39 games as a Poke, Gordon ran for 2,920 yards and 36 touchdowns. He ranks sixth in rushing scores on OSU’s all-time list behind Barry Sanders (53), Terry Miller (49), Thurman Thomas (47), Joseph Randle (40) and Kendall Hunter (37) — not a bad group to be in company with.

The Dolphins took Gordon in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Gordon and Miami will be back on the field Saturday for a preseason game against the Lions in Detroit.
