Mets fans might have a new favorite.

Former Cowboy Nolan McLean stepped to the mound for his Major League debut on Saturday, and he didn’t disappoint.

McLean started the Mets’ 3-1 win over visiting Seattle, allowed no runs and struck out eight Mariners.

He logged two strikeouts in his first Big League inning on his way to eight strikeouts and four walked batters in 5 1/3 scoreless innings. Here’s a look at each of those Ks.

The former Oklahoma State two-way player shifted his focus to pitching when he hit the pros, and it’s paid off. But just because he switched solely to pitching, doesn’t mean he can’t still facilitate a double play.

New York took McLean in the third round of the 2023 MLB Draft, and he’s worked his way up into the top pitching prospect in the Mets organization. After a debut like that, he’s threatening to become a fan favorite.

After McLean helped them break a three-game losing streak, the Mets are back within five games of the lead, in second place in the NL-East.
