There are a lot of new faces.

There was no perfect way to seed a tournament that takes place at the beginning of the season, but it seems like the National Duals Invitational got things right for the most part.

Not wanting to lean to heavily of last season’s results given how much rosters turn over these days, the event had teams submit projected lineups and had a committee seed the teams from there. MatScouts’ Willie Saylor was on that seeding committee, and on the Basch and the Brain podcast this week read off the lineup OSU submitted, which was enough to garner the Cowboys the 4 seed at the event.

With so much turnover for David Taylor’s squad from last season, there were some question marks as to where different guys would slot in. This lineup is by no means set in stone, but it at least provides a little bit of a road map with the season less than a month away.

Here it is.

125: Troy Spratley

No surprise here. Spratley is the reigning national runner-up at 125 pounds after going 24-5 as a redshirt sophomore.

133: Richard Figueroa II/Cael Hughes

Richard Figueroa was a national champion at 125 pounds in 2024 while at Arizona State. He went 17-4 at 125 last season and was in the top three of the rankings for much of the season before going 1-2 at NCAAs. He bumps up to 133 for the Cowboys, which was expected when he transferred.

Now a redshirt sophomore, Cael Hughes split time at 133 for the Pokes last season, going 8-1 with five bonus-point victories. Hughes went 140-0 as a high schooler and was Oklahoma’s 45th four-time state champ.

141: Carter Young/Sergio Vega

Carter Young started most of OSU’s season at 149 pounds last year, going 10-10. Young started the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons at 141 for the Cowboys. He went 12-9 as a true freshman and 15-14 as a sophomore. He’s a two-time NCAA qualifier at the weight.

Sergio Vega is one of many solid freshmen Taylor has on the roster. Flo considered Vega the No. 7 prospect in all of the 2025 class. He wrestled at Sunnyside High in Tucson, Arizona, accumulating a 140-2 record to go with four stat titles. He’s a Fargo, Super 32 and Who’s Number One champ.

149: Casey Swiderski

Casey Swiderski transferred in from Iowa State this offseason. He was an All-American at 149 pounds in 2024 but missed all of last season because of injury. Swiderski went 24-5 during the 2023-24 season on his way to a seventh-place finish at NCAAs. He qualified for nationals at 141 pounds as a freshman.

MatScouts had Swiderski as the No. 3 prospect in the 2022 recruiting class. He was a four-time Michigan state champ, going 166-3.

157: Teague Travis/Landon Robideau

Teague Travis’s 2024-25 season was one of grit. He started the Cowboys’ first two duals at 157 pounds before missing just about all of the rest of the season with injury. Travis got healthy enough to be able to cut down to 149 pounds for the Big 12 tournament, where he finished fourth to secure a spot at nationals. He finished just two wins shy of the podium despite being given the 33 seed.

Robideau is another stud freshman. Flo had him tabbed as the No. 5 wrestler in the 2025 recruiting class. He was a three-time state champ in Minnesota. He’s won at Who’s Number One, Super 32 and Fargo. Robideau won the U20 World Team Trials bracket before falling to PJ Duke in a best-of-three series for the U20 World Team spot. For what it’s worth, Duke also secured the United States’ senior world team spot. Robideau placed third at the U20 U.S. Open, only losing to Duke.

165: LaDarion Lockett/Kody Routledge

Two freshmen.

Stillwater native Dee Lockett was a U20 World Team member this summer after winning the U.S. Open and a best-of-three series against Penn State commit Jayden James. Lockett went 151-3 for the Pioneers, winning four state titles. Flo considers Lockett the No. 3 wrestler in the 2025 recruiting class. He’s a 2025 Senior Pan-Am gold medalist, a U17 world champ and a U20 silver medalist.

Another Oklahoman, Kody Routledge was the No. 28 wrestler on Flo’s big board for the 2025 class. Routledge is an Ironman champ, a U20 U.S. Open runner-up and a two-time state champ at Edmond North.

174: Alex Facundo

Penn State transfer Alex Facundo was a blue-chip prospect back in the 2021 recruiting class, but getting in the lineup at Penn State is no easy feat. That’s where Facundo, now a redshirt junior, transferred from this offseason.

He went 11-2 and qualified for the NCAA Championships at 165 pounds as a redshirt freshman in 2023. Facundo cut down to 157 last season and went 5-0 before eventually losing a battle with Tyler Kasak for the spot in PSU’s lineup.

He has to be feeling better at 174 than he did at 157, and many are predicting a big year for the former four-time Michigan state champ.

184: Zack Ryder/Brayden Thompson

If iron truly does sharpen iron, OSU’s 184-pounders ought to be rather sharp.

Zack Ryder transfers in after redshirting at Penn State last year. He went 8-0 in his redshirt year, winning the Southern Scuffle. Ryder was the No. 5 recruit in the 2024 class, according to Flo. He’s a two-time U17 world bronze medalist and a U20 world silver medalist. Ryder actually forwent his senior year of high school to train with David Taylor at the M2 Training Center.

Brayden Thompson started at 174 for the Cowboys in the 2023-24 season before redshirting last year. He went 12-11 in his year in the lineup, taking third at Big 12s to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. Thompson went 9-0 while redshirting, winning the Bob Smith Open and the Reno Tournament of Champions.

197: Cody Merrill/Jersey Robb

Cody Merrill is a pupil of former Cowboy wrestler Daniel Cormier, as Cormier was Merrill’s coach at Gilroy High School (CA). Merrill was the No. 12 prospect on Flo’s big board for the 2024 class. He redshirted last year while going 12-2 with three wins against ranked opponents. Merrill went 109-0 at Gilroy. He is a U17 bronze medalists in Greco, a two-time California state champ and a three-time Fargo champ.

Out of Bixby, Jersey Robb has made a few guest appearances in OSU’s lineup the past few seasons. He went 12-2 wrestling at 184 pounds last season. He wrestled in four duals during the 2023-24 season, a year in which he went 9-3. He won three state titles at Bixby.

Heavyweight: Konner Doucet

Konner Doucet returns to the Cowboy lineup after sitting behind Wyatt Hendrickson last season. Doucet went 5-0 last year, winning the Michigan State Open and one dual match. He is a two-time NCAA qualifier, doing so in a 21-11 2023-24 season and an 18-12 2022-23 season. Doucet was a four-time Oklahoma state champ at Comanche.
