New Cowboy head coach Eric Morris continues to fill out his staff with the latest domino also falling from the state of Texas.

Texas State defensive line coach Michael O’Guin is set to coach OSU’s defensive tackle group, according to a report by Football Scoop.

O’Guin has been the DL coach at Texas State since 2023. In his first season, the Bobcats led the nation in tackles for loss (110) and were among the Top 10 in sacks. Their 40 sacks were a school FBS record, and Texas State’s D-line accounted for 31 of those.

Prior to his time at Texas State, O’Guin spent two seasons in the same position at Sam Houston where he helped coach one of the best defensive fronts in the FCS during that time. He was also Sam Houston’s Defensive Recruiting Coordinator for both seasons.

He was a graduate assistant at Texas Tech in 2019 and spent 2020 on staff as a defensive assistant at Notre Dame. He played defensive line at SMU. O’Guin also spent five years coaching high school ball in Texas.

O’Guin would be working closely with former OSU player and coach Greg Richmond who was announced to be returning to coach the Cowboys’ defensive line two days prior to this report.
