Rodney Fields Jr. Entering the Transfer Portal

Rodney Fields Jr. was probably the name atop Cowboy fans’ wish lists to keep out of the transfer portal, but unfortunately, that won’t be the case.

Fields announced via X on Friday afternoon that he will, in fact, enter the portal after two promising seasons at Oklahoma State.

“As an Oklahoma native and young man whose father was an OSU fanatic, and had family on the team, I felt it was my destiny to attend Oklahoma State,” Fields wrote. “Although the past two years have been challenging with a lot of coaching transition, it has been a dream to be a Cowboy and go to battle with my brothers, a few of them literally my family members.

“In the big picture of life, sometimes the journey takes us away from home. To become my best version of myself as a player and a man, I will be entering the transfer portal. I am grateful to the OSU staff who recruited me and looked forward to the next chapter.”

Fields was the Cowboys’ leader in yards from scrimmage by some margin in 2025, finishing with 890 — 361 yards ahead of the next-closest Poke.

Despite missing time with injury, Fields still ran for 614 yards in nine games and finished as the Cowboys’ fourth-leading receiver with 276 yards.

Fields maintained a redshirt in 2024 but played in four games as a true freshman, where he ran for 99 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries.

Out of Del City, Fields was a three-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class who the Cowboys were able to get committed before he even announced another offer. He ran for 1,156 yards and 18 touchdowns as a high school senior.

With Fields’ departure, OSU’s running back room will just about be fully reset entering 2026. The only running back on last year’s roster who has eligibility left and isn’t in the portal is DJ Dugar Jr., who was a true freshman in 2025.

OSU hired North Texas running backs coach Patrick Cobbs this offseason, with Cobbs following Eric Morris from Denton to Stillwater. For what it’s worth, recruiting analysts have started making predictions that OSU will land UNT transfer running back Caleb Hawkins, who ran for 1,434 yards and 25 touchdowns as a true freshman with the Mean Green this season.
