Report: Conference-USA Defensive Player of the Year Kashie Natt Visiting Oklahoma State on Monday
Natt stuffs the stat sheet as a 6-foot-3 guard.
The Conference-USA Defensive Player of the Year is reportedly visiting Oklahoma State on Monday, according to 247Sports’ Dushawn London.
Sam Houston’s Kashie Natt picked up that honor in his first season with the program after averaging 10.8 points, 8.2 boards, 2.4 assists, two steals and 1.1 blocks a game this past season.
And Natt did that as a 6-foot-3, 190-pound guard.
Despite not being the tallest guy on the floor, Natt’s defensive rebound percentage ranked 54th nationally and tops in Conference-USA. Meanwhile, his steal percentage ranked 20th nationally.
This past season was Natt’s first at the Division-I level. He had spent the previous three seasons at LSU-Alexandria (NAIA). In 82 games across those three seasons, Natt averaged 17.9 points and 9.3 rebounds a contest while shooting 34% from 3. He averaged 20.3 points and 10.3 boards a game in his final year there.
If LSU-Alexandria at all sounds familiar, Christian Coleman played there. His last year with the program was the year before Natt got there.
Natt had nine double-doubles with Sam Houston this season. That includes a game against FIU where he had 18 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and five steals. He also had a 17-point, 16-rebound game against New Mexico State.
He scored in the 20s on three occasions, putting up a season-high 26 against Idaho State.
Natt finished second in Conference-USA in total rebounds (278) and first in steals (69).
The Cowboys struggled mightily on the defensive end this past season, and the early signs of the portal window suggest that’s an area that Steve Lutz and Co. intend on shoring up in the portal window. Along with bringing the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year on a visit, OSU has reportedly made contact with Southland Defensive Player of the Year Jerald Colonel.
