BOXSCORE

A pair of Cowgirls were responsible for most of the scoring as OSU secured its fifth Big 12 series win of the season.

No. 16 Oklahoma State defeated Baylor 9-1 by mercy rule in six innings.

Amanda Hasler and Karli Godwin were at the plate for the Cowgirls’ first eight runs, including a dramatic start.

The Cowgirls got off to a hot start thanks to Hasler’s grand slam to put OSU up 4-0 in the first. It was her 12th home run of the season, a team lead.

In the second, Godwin hit her sixth homer of the year, a solo bomb to make it 5-0.

But that pair wasn’t done. Hasler added an RBI double in the fifth. In the sixth, Godwin doubled to deep left sending Libby Jaques from first to third before Jaques ran home on a wild pitch by Baylor pitch Sadie Ross.

Jayden Jones was the only other Cowgirl credited with a RBI. She pushed the lead to 9-1 in the top of the sixth, grounding out to send Godwin across home plate.

Preslee Downing (now 5-0) got the start and pitched three scoreless innings before getting into a jam. In the fourth, Baylor scored on an error leaving two runners on base.

RyLee Crandall, who formerly played at Baylor, came in and struck out the final Bear looking to end the inning with just one Baylor run. She would close it out in the fifth and sixth, allowing three hits and striking out three Bears.

With the win, the Cowgirls take the series and improve to 33-13 and 11-6 in the Big 12. OSU has won six of seven including ranked wins over Oklahoma, Arizona (2-1) and Texas. They’ll go for the sweep at 1 p.m. Sunday in Waco.
