It can get pretty dusty out in West Texas, but the Cowboys brought their brooms.

Oklahoma State beat Texas Tech 11-2 on Sunday to complete a Big 12 series sweep.

The series-ending win for the Cowboys came with a handful of outstanding performances, but we’ll start with the Cowboys’ leadoff man.

Junior outfielder Alex Conover went 4-for-6 at the dish Sunday with three runs scored, an RBI, two doubles, a home run and two stolen bases.

He got things going early, starting the game with his 335-foot home run to left. It came on a 2-2 pitch and was Conover’s seventh homer of the season and second in as many days.

The Red Raiders will be glad to get Conover back to Stillwater. In the three games this weekend, Conover was 10-for-15 (.667) with eight runs scored and three RBIs.

Brennan Phillips was fantastic on the bump for the Pokes on Sunday, throwing 120 pitches across 8 1/3 innings where he allowed the two runs on seven hits while walking one, hitting one and striking out six. Kai Fyke came on and got the final two outs.

Kollin Ritchie proved he’s more than just a home run hitter, as he went 3-for-4 at the plate on Sunday with and RBI and a run scored. He had a double and two singles.

OSU hit three other home runs, the first of which came off Garrett Shull’s bat in the second inning. The solo shot was Shull’s 10th of the season.

Next came Sebastian Norman in the fourth — another solo shot. It was Norman’s fifth in his freshman season.

Collin Brueggemann closed the home run festivities in the sixth with a solo shot to center that went 435 feet from home plate. It makes a dozen home runs on the year for Brueggemann.

OSU led 6-2 going into the ninth when it just got gross for the Red Raiders. OSU scored five runs in the frame. The first came off a Ritchie single. The other four came either from a bases-loaded walk or a bases-loaded hit by pitch.

This was an outstanding weekend for the Cowboys’ NCAA Tournament hopes. OSU is now 28-16 on the season and 11-10 in Big 12 play. This is the first time this season OSU is above .500 in the league.
