Big 12 Update: The Big 12 Goes 13-2 in Week 1 of the 2026 Season

Outside of the state of Oklahoma, it was a solid weekend for the Big 12 conference.

Big 12 teams went 13-2 in Week 1 of the 2026 season, with the only losses being to an SEC team in Atlanta and … hmmm, can’t seem to remember the other loss.

Anyway, here’s a quick look around the league.

Colorado Swipes One from Georgia Tech Late

Deion Sanders’ 2026 debut wasn’t exactly pretty, but the Buffaloes did enough to get the job done.

Julian Lewis hit Charlie Williams for a 20-yard touchdown with 37 seconds left to win 14-13.

Baylor Learns the Heartbreak of a Goal-Line Stop

The Bears had one of the more premier games of the weekend against Auburn, but Baylor felt a heartbreak it provided Oklahoma State a few years back.

Baylor (by way of former Cowboy Gavin Freeman) scored with nine seconds to play but rather than trying to tie the game at 17 with a PAT, Baylor went for 2 and the win … and didn’t get it.

Freeman was the Bears’ best player, as the former Poke caught a dozen passes for 154 yards and that touchdown.

In his Baylor debut, Florida transfer quarterback DJ Lagway threw for 333 yards, two touchdowns and a pick while completing 27 of his 54 attempts.

Cincy Gives the Big 12 More Bragging Rights Against the ACC

TCU’s loss to North Carolina in Week 0 wasn’t ideal for the Big 12’s standing as the third-best conference in college football, but Colorado and Cincinnati picked up the slack.

The Bearcats beat Boston College 34-15 on Saturday in Cincy.

Cincinnati powered to a 24-0 lead before the Eagles got on the board late in the third quarter.

The Bearcats won this game despite throwing for just 85 yards because they ran for 254 yards on 5.5 yards a carry.

Who would’ve thought among Big 12 teams playing FCS teams in Week 1 that Texas Tech would have the closest game?

In Manhattan, Game 1 of the Collin Klein Era nearly killed Willie the Wildcat:

Then in Tempe, Arizona State beat up Morgan State so bad they trimmed time off the game.
