Weekend Watch Guide: An Oklahoma State Fan’s Guide to Week 2 of the 2026 College Football Season

The 2026 season couldn’t wait one week to deliver a gut punch to Cowboy fans, but the show goes on.

This weekend’s Big 12 slate is outstanding, with one conference game getting going and another six Big 12 teams taking on a team from another Power Conference.

Here’s a breakdown of games worth keeping an eye on this weekend.

Border War: An old Big Eight rivalry takes the stage Friday night as a ranked Missouri team heads to Lawrence.

The Jayhawks handled Long Island 51-6 last week, with first-year starter Isaiah Marshall throwing for 246 yards and two touchdowns while running for another 49 yards. Look out for receiver Nik McMillan, who caught six passes for 130 yards and a touchdown in Week 1.

Mizzou started the year with a 54-14 win against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, with quarterback Austin Simmons throwing for 252 yards and four TDs with just two incompletions.

Arizona State-Texas A&M: A new Big 12 team vs. an old Big 12 team.

The Aggies enter this one as two-touchdown favorites after beating Missouri State 50-0 to start the year.

The Sun Devils hung 70 on Morgan State, with QB Cutter Boley throwing for 387 yards and six touchdowns. Three different ASU receivers hit the century mark:

Reed Harris — six catches, 137 yards, two touchdowns
Grayson Rigdon — two catches, 110 yards, two touchdowns
Omarion Miller — eight catches 102 yards, one touchdown

It would be huge for the Big 12 if Arizona State could go to Kyle Field and get the job done.

Arizona-BYU: Hello, Week 2 conference action.

The Cougars are a touchdown favorite against an Arizona team that brings in one of the league’s more experienced quarterbacks.

Noah Fifita threw for 279 yards and two touchdowns in the Wildcats’ 35-7 win against Northern Arizona in Week 1.

BYU steamrolled Utah Tech 63-7 with Bear Bachmeier completing 80% of his attempts for 198 yards and three scores.

UCF-Pitt: This game might not catch as many eyeballs as the others we’ve mentioned to this point, but it could still be a big deal in the battle in solidifying the third-best conference in college football between the Big 12 and ACC.

The Knights blasted Bethune-Cookman 73-6 in Week 1, running for 360 yards on 9.5 yards a carry. It wasn’t a super dominant game from a passing standpoint, with Alonza Barnett III going 11-for-18 for 158 yards, a TD and an INT, but it’s hard to nitpick a 73-6 win too hard.

Pitt opened with a 59-14 win against Miami (OH) in which Panther QB Mason Heintschel threw for 453 yards and seven touchdowns.

Cy-Hawk: In perhaps the gnarliest in-state rivalry of them all, Iowa State has won two in a row against the Hawkeyes, but this will be the first Cy-Hawk with Jimmy Rogers leading Iowa State onto the field.

Iowa bucked its reputation and put up 40 points in a Week 1 win against Northern Illinois. Receiver Tony Diaz has made some noise with his seven-catch, 84-yard performance.

The Cyclones beat SEMO 38-10 in Rogers’ debut in a game where the Iowa State defense made a dozen tackles for loss and six sacks.

Arkansas-Utah: The Big 12 has to take advantage of when a team perceived to be at the top of its league takes on a perceived bottom-tier team from one of the two big leagues.

The Utes rolled through Idaho 66-14 last week, gaining 633 yards of total offense while throwing for five touchdowns and running for four more.

Ryan Silverfield’s Arkansas debut came in a 31-14 win against North Alabama.

Other Games to Watch

OU-Michigan: This game had some hype going into the year, but after Michigan’s controversial win* against Western Michigan last week, the thought now is can Michigan even keep it close? This might not be a very good game, but it’ll be a highly talked about contest.

Alabama-Kentucky: These teams get the SEC slate going.

The Crimson Tide is a 10.5-point favorite at the time of writing, following a 48-10 win against East Carolina. Sophomore quarterback Keelon Russell threw for 256 yards and ran for 86 yards in that game.

Kentucky thumped Youngstown State 45-13, with QB Kenny Minchey throwing for 301 yards and four TDs.

Memphis-Boise State: There isn’t a game this weekend that has more College Football Playoff implications than this one. With it being likely that only one Group of 6 school gets in, Memphis and Boise State are two front runners at this point.

Memphis has already dispatched one of those other contenders in UNLV before the Tigers beat Arkansas State 42-24 last week.

Boise State went to Eugene and gave the Ducks all they wanted in a 34-27 Oregon win.

Ohio State-Texas: All the storylines — No. 1 ranking on the line, Arch Manning vs. Julian Sayin, two coaches who seats are seemingly always a little warm.

Both took care of business against lesser competition in Week 1, but now two of the nation’s most talented rosters will get together and see who is better.
