STILLWATER — Deion Sanders’ Buffaloes looked to be in another slugfest with what is considered to be a Big 12 contender, but then the second half started.

Oklahoma State beat Colorado 57-24 on Saturday in Boone Pickens Stadium. The Buffaloes led 24-23 at the half, and then OSU scored 37 straight points.

“We couldn’t keep up with our opposition,” Sanders said.

Sanders opened his postgame news conference by giving props to the Cowboys’ performance, complimenting the OSU staff and coach Eric Morris.

Saturday’s game marked the most points and yards one of Sanders’ Colorado teams have ever given up. Although this year hasn’t been the Buffs’ best under Sanders, they had been able to keep recent games against Texas Tech and Utah tight, but the Cowboys ended up blowing the doors off Colorado. Why?

“They tried our corners,” Sanders said. “They tried our corners and tested our corners, and we didn’t do well. …

“We’ve been beaten but not beaten, and that was one of the first teams who really tried our corners just like we tried theirs. I think both teams were successful, but we weren’t successful in the second half in our attempts.”

With it being homecoming, a lot of former Pokes were in attendance, including all-time great running back Thurman Thomas. Thomas and Sanders were NFL stars at the same time and met up with each other during pregame.

“Got a chance to see old buddy Thurman Thomas before the game,” Sanders said. “It was delightful. I hadn’t seen him in quite some time. Legend, Hall of Famer — someone who actually really changed the game.”

This marked Sanders’ first time to Boone Pickens Stadium, and he got to see it at its best — a sold-out homecoming crowd with a night kickoff.

The crowd had a wave going for a while. An Orange Power chant echoed for a good few minutes. Heck, the OKC Thunder’s Jalen Williams was perusing the sidelines. It was a party.

“First of all, it’s a beautiful stadium,” Sanders said. “Lot of the schools, I haven’t ever been to, so I’m always enamored by the beauty. The scoreboard is unbelievable. It’s a heck of a scoreboard. And the atmosphere was great. It was great. It was great.

“I think they played on some of the scoreboard, the NBA team was at the game. That’s awesome to see them come and support the collegiate players. That is awesome. But it is a great atmosphere. Beautiful. Wish it would’ve turned out different, though.”
