Thus far we’ve all predicted the wrong winner of both of the Cowboys’ games this season, so let’s try this again.

Oklahoma State hosts FCS Murray State this weekend for a game at 6 p.m. Saturday in Boone Pickens Stadium. Here’s how we see the game going.

What We’re Predicting

Uniforms: These have already come out, but rest assured, these predictions were made before OSU dropped that it’s rocking a throwback helmet. Four points are up for grabs here: helmet color, helmet decal, jersey color, pants color.

Drew Mestemaker over/under 275 passing yards: Against a team that OSU is expected to throttle, will Mestemaker throw for 275 yards or will he be on the sideline with his feet up before it gets to that point?

Name a Sack-Getter: Pretty simple, name a Cowboy who gets a sack Saturday, get a point.

TD Parlay: You can name as many players who you think will score a touchdown (passing TDs don’t count), and you get two points for each player you name. However if you name a guy who doesn’t score a touchdown, you get no points in this section.

Score: Three points are up for grabs here: one for guessing the correct winner, one for being on the right side of the spread (OSU -55.5) and one to whichever one of us gets closest to the actual score.

Marshall Scott

Uniform: Orange (Cursive Cowboys) — Orange — Black

Drew Mestemaker over/under 275 passing yards: Under

I think Drew Mestemaker could probably throw for as many yards as he wants against the Racers, but with the 55.5-point spread, I don’t anticipate Mestemaker playing much of the fourth quarter. I think OSU spreads the love this week, and thus, Mestemaker goes under 275 passing yards.

Name a Sack-Getter: James Williams

Williams didn’t get a sack himself this past week, but he facilitated a few for teammates by quickly getting to Dante Moore and getting him off his spot. I think he gets on the board this week.

TD Parlay: Caleb Hawkins/Justin Bowick/Chris Barnes

I think everyone should have Caleb Hawkins on their list in this game, but there is a world where OSU uses this week to lighten his workload. As for the receivers I picked, Justin Bowick is due for a breakout-type game, and I’m just not sure the Racers are going to be able to keep up with Chris Barnes.

Score: Oklahoma State 56, Murray State 10

I don’t have the Cowboys covering the massive spread, but that says more about the size of that spread than it does my confidence in OSU comfortably winning this game.

Kyle Cox

Uniform: Black (Brand) — Orange — Black

Drew Mestemaker over/under 275 passing yards: Over

Name a Sack-Getter: Jaleel Johnson

TD Parlay: Justin Bowick/Wyatt Young/Terrence Lewis

Score: Oklahoma State 45, Murray State 10

I think the Cowboys take control early and, instead of running it up for video game numbers, rest some starters and get a look at the younger guys. I expect a couple of them to make plays as well.

Tyler Waldrep

Uniform: Black (Brand) — Orange — Orange

Drew Mestemaker over/under 275 passing yards: Over

Drew Mestemaker cleared this line eight times last season including a 51-0 showing against FCS foe Lamar. I think Mestemaker will be in this game longer than OSU fans expect because game reps are valuable regardless of competition. Plus, this should be the kind of competition where the Cowboys can score on some explosive plays, so it might not take many attempts for the “Playmaker” to hit the over.

Name a Sack-Getter: James Williams

I bet most of the other guys pick Jaleel Johnson. He feels like a safe bet too, but Williams is only two snaps and one total pressure behind him this season. It’s a bit silly, but he just feels due to get one this weekend since he missed out last Saturday.

TD Parlay: Caleb Hawkins/Justin Bowick/Wyatt Young/Ayo Adeyi

Hawkins’ usage, Bowick’s activity in the red zone and Young’s big-play ability all make them feel like rather safe bets to score in this one. At least one other running back should score this time around too.

Tre Page, even if he’s still in the doghouse, is more likely to carry the ball in the red zone, but Adeyi is a safer bet to get work in the passing game. I’m worried Page takes his job back this week, but Adeyi has both a safer role on the team and has more upside since he could break a long screen into the end zone so I decided to go with him.

Score: Oklahoma State 56, Murray State 3

This might be Murray State’s best defense in years, only giving up 28 points per game. However, the Racers allowed 45 or more points six times last season, and North Texas topped 50 seven times last season and each time the other team scored 25 or less, so I don’t expect OSU to shut things down early.

Scoreboard

The Oregon game tightened the top of the standings in terms of predictions across the writers and Reloaders.

T1. Nathan Gilsleider — 8 points
T1. Justin Southwell — 8 points
T1. Marshall Scott — 8 points
4. Tyler Waldrep — 7 points
5. Kyle Cox — 5 points
