The Cowboys may have gotten the win, but that didn’t raise their profile in the eyes of AP voters.

Oklahoma State was static in this week’s AP Top 25 ranking, remaining at No. 18. After an off week that saw Oklahoma State move up from 19th to 18th, the Pokes’ 42-28 win over UCF didn’t do anything to move the needle.

The Cowboys did finally crack into the Top 25 in the US LBM Coaches Poll, debuting at No. 20. OSU was the first team out the last two weeks.

Elsewhere in the Big 12

All the league’s ranked teams got Ws this weekend, but like OSU, they all a remained static or moved up just slightly.

BYU remained at No. 8 after it defeated Iowa State 24-10. Utah and Texas Tech did each moved up one spot. The Red Raiders moved up from 11th to 10th on a bye week, and the Utes moved up from 12 to 11 after taking care of Kansas 41-24. Houston climbed from 22 to 20 after beating K-State 35-16, setting up a Top 20 matchup between the Cowboys and the Cougars next weekend.

Other Movement in the Rankings

When people complain about SEC bias, sometimes it comes down to some pretty wild weekly swings in rankings like this.

Get ready for the rest of the state to get a little more mouthy. Unranked Oklahoma edged out No. 1 Texas in the Red River Showdown. It didn’t quite get the Sooners back into the Top 25, but they’re now the fifth team out of the ranking at 3-2. Texas on the other hand, fell from No. 1 to No. 7.

Filling that Longhorn-sized hole, Georgia took down Alabama in a tight one that saw the Bulldogs climb from 2 to 1. But the Crimson Tide remained at No. 6 despite the loss.

Speaking of SEC love, Florida finally fell out of the Top 25 after the Gators’ second-straight embarrassment. Florida dropped from 8 to 16 in Week 5 after getting thumped by an No. 25 Mizzou. That catapulted the Tigers from 25th to 14th. Now, after beating a 3-2 Texas A&M squad, Missouri moved up to 13. LSU only fell 12 spots from No. 10 to 22 after losing to unranked Kentucky. That win moved Kentucky from outside the Top 25 to 15th.

Maybe Mizzou was just that good to start with, but that’s just a peek at the mental gymnastics (subconscious or not) and go into affirming biases. All the Southeastern flowers.

No. 13 Oregon suffered its second loss, falling 17-15 to No. 21 UCLA, sans QB1 Dante Moore. The result dropped the Ducks out of the Top 25 and boosted the Bruins nine spots to No. 12.
