Oklahoma State picked up a huge commitment from highly sought after Darrion Daniels Friday night, giving his verbal commitment less than a week before signing day.

Daniels has been on OSU’s wish list for awhile now, and the long pursuit of the four-star defensive tackle paid off in a big way Friday night.

Daniels chose the Cowboys over offers from Oklahoma, Iowa, Texas Tech and several other options.

Daniels become OSU’s 18th overall commit in the 2015 class, and the teams highest rated commit according to 247sports composite rankings.

The 6’4, 290-pound defensive tackle is listed as the 20th-rated player at his position.

Daniels took official visits to Oklahoma the weekend of Oct. 17, then visited Texas Tech the weekend of Oct. 31 followed by an official visit to Stillwater on the weekend of Nov. 14.

Last weekend, the Iowa Hawkeyes hosted Daniels and many considered him to be a Iowa or Oklahoma lean.

“The one thing that was important to me that they all had was that I could get early playing time,” Daniels said. “I feel like I can really prove myself at Oklahoma State.

“When people say you’re going to lose, I want to prove to them I can win. I know its going to be a fight when I get there. It’s a fight I’m not afraid of losing, but I know I hate being second.”

“I want to make Oklahoma State D-Line U. I want to be the guy to start the trend,” Daniels told Bleacher Report analyst Damon Sayles.

Daniels sees Oklahoma State as a challenge and wants to prove everyone wrong by going to OSU. “One thing I kept hearing about Oklahoma State, it was a negative thing. People would tell me I could never go to the NFL from Oklahoma State. They said they don’t send out defensive linemen.

“That’s actually something I really liked about it. It’s going to help me make a name for myself.”

Daniels decision comes as a huge relief to the OSU coaching staff as they graduate senior defensive tackles Ofa Hautau and James Castleman.

National signing day is approaching on Wednesday, and landing a four-star defensive tackle could be a huge lure to help bait other top ranked prospects the Cowboys are targeting before this recruiting cycle finishes.
