50 Days to Kickoff: A closer look at No. 50 Josh Mabin

Believe it or not…. There are only 50 days that stand between you and the happiest season in life: Football season.

Let’s take a look at No. 50 for the Cowboys, linebacker Josh Mabin, his football background and potential impact in Stillwater next season.

Mabin committed to OSU the August before his senior season, and despite only playing in eight games his senior season due to injury, Oklahoma State stayed committed to Mabin. And Mabin did the same.

Last season, OSU lacked experience and had youth all across the board after graduating 17 starters. This season, Oklahoma State is dealing with an unusual circumstance – depth at linebacker. And Mabin’s versatility will make him a prime candidate to contribute as a sophomore.

“We’re three-deep at the linebacker spot,” Gundy told The Oklahoman in April. “First time it’s even been that way since I’ve been the head coach here.”

Mabin is one of several extremely talented bunch of linebackers this season in the three-deep. Gyasi Akem and Justin Phillips were two freshmen linebackers forced into play early last season and responded well, while newcomer Jordan Burton, a transfer from Kilgore College (Texas) has drawn rave reviews from coaches and figures to be another key player who will make a big impact at the STAR position.

Mabin was able to scoop up a fumble recovery during the spring game in April, and all signs point to him continuing his development this season in what is expected to be a revamped defense for Glenn Spencer and his crew.
