Week 1 Uniform Review: Black-White-Black Now Most Common
Oklahoma State kicked off the season in some of their most recognizable road threads. Thursday night against Central Michigan was the fifth time that they wore the Black-White-Black combination and the Cowboys now hold a 4-1 record in them.
This combination is currently the most frequently worn uniform, right ahead of Black-Orange-Black (2-2).
Before the season started, I thought the Pokes would wear this uniform combo against Texas and score 38 points again.
I predicted a few hours before kickoff that we would bust out the Bronc Rider helmet for Throwback Thursday. I would have loved to see that helmet in a White-White-White combo with those striped socks that we wore for homecoming last season. We have a few more road games, so the potential is certainly real.
This may be the fan favorite, and rightfully so because there’s not a lot that can top Black-White-Black when the Cowboys are away. I find it interesting that we haven’t seen this combo with the black Phantom Pete helmet yet, but maybe that’s ok.
We’ve gotten close enough to that: Black(Phantom)-White-Orange against Kansas State, Black(Phantom)-White-White against Baylor, and White(Stripe/Phantom)-White-Black against West Virginia – all were losses with a combined score of 122-63.
While Black-White-Black is one of the best uniform combos OSU wears, I believe we may have seen them for the final time. I’m looking forward to some unique combinations this season, but I think we’re going to have to hold off until conference play for that.
