Boone Pickens Says he Supports the Brad Underwood Hire
If you thought the hiring of Stephen F. Austin’s Brad Underwood was a quick process, Boone Pickens confirmed as much to the Tulsa World.
The process happened quickly because “everyone knew it was going to happen.” Saying that he thought both Holder and the regents were all on board for Brad Underwood.
Interestingly, the comments Mike Holder made about leaving no stone unturned don’t seem to be true. However, in order to land a guy like Underwood, who was surely to garner more offers from other programs, perhaps Oklahoma State elected to focus in on Underwood to ensure confidentiality and also a full understanding that he was, in fact, the guy.
Who knows what really went down behind the scenes?
Anyway, Pickens went further in the interview and talked about the possibility of Doug Gottlieb coming to coach, saying that “there was a lot of conversation about him” but that “you just couldn’t take a chance on him not ever coaching.”
You can read the full interview from Bill Haisten here. Pretty interesting stuff that gives a little more light to the behind the scenes of what went down from Boone’s perspective, although we may never really know the whole story. Regardless, it sounds like Holder has his man – and what sounds to be what was his top man. Now it’s time to see what he can do in the orange and black.
