2017 DB Tyon Merchant Commits to Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State had a big weekend on the recruiting front. It started with a boom when 6-foot-7 quarterback Jelani Woods announced his commitment on Friday. Then on Saturday during the spring game festivities, Tyon Merchant also joined the Cowboy commitment list which he announced on twitter:
I want to thank God for blessing me with this opportunity in life to play at the next level. Committed to OSU today pic.twitter.com/P9q5hCdwyu

Merchant is listed a cornerback/returner on his 247sports profile, however, at 6-foot-1, 180-pounds the Cowboys likely see him primarily at cornerback or even safety. Here’s what safeties coach Dan Hammerschmidt said after the commitment:

He’s a big, physical cornerback who not only can cover on an island like the Cowboys tend to let their defensive backs do, but has excellent tackling skills in space and cover the field quickly. He held offers from Houston, SMU, UTSA, Texas State and OSU.
