The ESPN Football Power Index Really Likes Oklahoma State
ESPN’s football power index which measures team strength and “is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season” is really high on Oklahoma State.
The ESPN projection tool says OSU will finish second in the Big 12 behind Oklahoma (who ESPN has at No. 3), and projects the Cowboys to finish with *around* a 9.2-2.8 win-loss record, and an 18% chance to win the conference. Nationally, the FPI ranks OSU No. 8, notably ahead of Ohio State, Michigan, and USC. The index has the next ranked Big 12 team, TCU, ranked No. 29.

The results of the FPI, according to ESPN’s website, is based on 10,000 different simulations that take into account results to date, remaining schedule, and how many point above or below average a team is.
