James Washington: ‘First Play Was a Tone-Setter’

James Washington had nine catches for 296 yards and two TDs on Saturday.

I repeat. James Washington had 296 yards on Saturday. And his last catch came with eight minutes left in the 3rd quarter! Washington fell four yards short of the all-time single game OSU record for receiving yards (Adarius Bowman at Kansas in 2006), but it was still the best performance of his career by 96 yards. “I felt great. That first play was a tone-setter,” said Washington of the 90-yard TD Rudolph threw to him on the first play. “Just to get that going and Mason’s confidence level rising and the defense sparking off of that I think was perfect for us.” Here’s that play.

“I never once saw my teammates tense up. They handled it well. We ran back out there, and the defense had three great stops. We ended it with a win.
