WATCH: Highlights of Oklahoma State QB recruit Jelani Woods
Oklahoma State quarterback commitment Jelani Woods has concluded his senior season. He is now gearing up for his next journey in Stillwater, as he will be an early enrollee for the Cowboys. With his season now in the rearview, let’s take a look at some of his strengths and weaknesses as a prospect that should have OSU fans ready to see the big man from Georgia.
Strengths
- Mobility
- Arm strength
- Accuracy
In order to thrive in Oklahoma State’s system, you need to be able to hit the deep ball. Woods proved he could do that over and over again this past season, as you can see at the 1:00 minute mark in his highlight. His 50-yard flick downfield on the video below and the 1:00 minute mark in his highlight video is effortless.

Weaknesses
- Not experienced with progressions
- Footwork
His weaknesses will improve with time. He has the tangibles with a 6-foot-7 frame, and his air-raid high school offense has only given him a limited amount of exposure to work progressions. He won’t be asked to do that at OSU, not as frequently as he would at other schools, anyway. At times he has a tendency to throw off his back foot. Even in his highlights, they turned out to be good throws just because of sheer arm strength. But the game speeds up at the next level, and those same plays could be interceptions down the road.
Overall, Woods has the ability to come in and compete for the quarterback job as a freshman, should it be needed. Ideally, though, Oklahoma State would probably prefer to redshirt him.
The most exciting part of his game is his mobility, which surprisingly wasn’t highlighted in his 2016 highlights. At Cedar Grove, they ran him until the cows came home. He has a natural instinct and feel for pressure in the pocket. He knows when to throw it away. He knows when to tuck and run. And a lot of the designed runs are hilarious to watch because he’s simply so much bigger than everyone.
