Brandon Weeden Will be Backup QB in AFC Wild Card Game Against Oakland

The Houston Texans quarterback room has been a carousel for the past month. Brock Osweiller, who the Texans paid $72 million to in the offseason, was benched recently after egregious play in favor of Tom Savage. But during the last game of the regular season, Savage suffered a concussion and did not pass protocol. He is listed as inactive this weekend in the AFC wild card game against the Oakland Raiders.

That leaves Brandon Weeden as the backup this weekend to Osweiller.

Weeden has only been active this season for two games while Savage sat with an infected elbow, but hasn’t even seen the field. In fact, the last time he played was Dec. 27 of 2015 in the regular season.

Down the stretch for Houston last season, Weeden lead the team to two consecutive wins over Indianapolis and then to Tennessee, before being sat for the rest of the season and postseason. With Osweiller being the only other active quarterback on the roster going into the weekend, there’s a possibility that Weeden could see his first playing time of the season in a critical AFC wild card game against the Raiders.
