Cowgirls Steal One from No. 1 Florida, Force Winner-Takes-All Game
For the first time since 2011 and the second time in program history, Oklahoma State’s softball team took down the nation’s top-ranked team.
Senior pitcher Brandi Needham allowed seven hits but no runs in 7 innings against the No. 16 scoring team in the country. She got some help from her defense in the form of double plays in the 1st and 4th innings.
The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the 6th inning when junior Vanessa Shippy’s double led the way for Maddi Holcomb to score.
The loss is just the seventh all season for the Gators and forces a second elimination game — and a shot at the Super Regional — immediately following at 1:30 p.m. CDT.
