Garrett Benge, Garrett McCain Earn All-Big 12 Selection
Ahead of their Big 12 Tournament matchup with No. 1 seed Texas Tech, the Cowboys got a chance to revel in their accomplishments. Josh Holliday’s squad didn’t have the season they wanted but a few Cowboys were recognized for their individual play.
Junior outfielder Garrett McCain and junior third baseman Garrett Benge were both selected to the Big 12 All-Conference first team.
McCain led the league in batting average (.395), hits (79) and on-base percentage (.496). His 50 scored runs were second in the Big 12 only to Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Texas Tech’s Josh Jung.
Benge, the Yukon, Oklahoma native, follows his 2016 All-Big 12 second team honors with a spot on this year’s first team. Benge led the Cowboys with nine home runs and 51 RBI’s. He also came in towards the top of the league, ranking third in on-base percentage (.454).
Senior pitcher Tyler Buffett and sophomore catcher Colin Simpson were All-Big 12 honorable mentions. Cade Cabbiness was selected to the All-Freshman team.
