Rickie Fowler Endows Scholarship Fund for OSU Engineers

Rickie Fowler was “contemplating a business major” while at Oklahoma State but is giving back to the engineers.

Fowler, a former Oklahoma State golf star and current stud on the PGA Tour, has created the Rickie Fowler Grand Challenge Scholars Program, OSU Athletics has announced. As an inaugural gift from the Rickie Fowler Foundation, $100,000 will be given to help establish the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology’s scholars program.

Fowler’s plan is to watch the endowment grow to $1 million, according to the press release.

“My home away from home will always be Stillwater, Oklahoma,” Fowler said. “Although I only spent two years there, its impact on me is everlasting. It’s important to me to treat my adopted state with the same respect they’ve given to me.”

The process began when Fowler was signed by Cobra Golf, which had created scientifically enhanced equipment. Fowler liked the partnership, according to the release and got in contact with CEAT Dean Paul Tikalsky, who said Fowler’s gift would be best placed in the National Academy of Engineering Grand Challenge Scholars Program.

“Rickie Fowler’s support expands OSU’s effort to engage more young women and men in the greatest challenges of the millennial generation,” Tikalsky said. “I look forward to Rickie meeting some of these extraordinary entrepreneurs.”

It’s a pretty remarkable donation for a man who is only 28, has made about as much money ($4,246,972) as Mike Gundy this season and was only at OSU for two years before going pro.

But Rickie Fowler is a remarkable human.
