Cowgirl Soccer Wins Bedlam For First Time Since 2014
Bedlam is more than football, and Oklahoma State is owning it.
The Cowgirl soccer team stayed perfect Friday night in Norman. Freshman Kimberly Rodriguez opened the scoring, and Charmé Morgan rounded off the 2-1 victory.
Sooners will likely argue the game doesn’t matter because it doesn’t count towards the Big 12 title race, but the data shows otherwise.
Since 2010, when a Bedlam non-conference game was introduced at the beginning of the soccer season, OSU has won it three times. In the three seasons, the Cowgirls won the non-con affair, they finished with winning records, including a mark of 27-3-3 in 2011.
Year | Record | Beat OU? |
---|---|---|
2016 | 9-9-3 | No |
2015 | 9-9-2 | No |
2014 | 10-10-1 | No |
2013 | 12-10-6 | Yes |
2012 | 16-7-4 | No |
2011 | 27-3-3 | Yes |
2010 | 22-4-2 | Yes |
In the four years OSU lost the game, it finished the season with a winning record only once. It’s not a flawless argument, but it shows the importance of this game.
And if you still disagree, listen to coach Colin Carmichael and sophomore midfielder Jaci Jones postgame.

They sound like they just won an NCAA Tournament game.
This game is also important from a support standpoint. The last time the game was played in Stillwater, in 2015, the Cowgirls had their largest crowd for the entire season. More than 2,200 people came to the soccer complex, but OSU lost 2-0.
Two days after that game, OSU played Georgia, and only 408 people came to watch. The most fans the Cowgirls drew after the Bedlam loss was 889 against Texas Tech.
When OSU won the game at home in 2013, 1,844 came out. Throughout the rest of the year, OSU hit the 700 mark in attendance only three other times.
With a new stadium heading the Cowgirls’ way in 2018, attendance is critical. And because of that, this game is vital.

The Cowgirls are 3-0 for the first time since 2012 when they finished 16-7-4. A record of that caliber hasn’t been reached since that season.
OSU is back at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex against Creighton at noon Sunday.
