A Look Back at the 350-200 Games Under Mike Gundy
It got a little bit lost because … kicking and … Yurcich and … Rudolph can run, but Oklahoma State posted a stat not seen very many times in the Mike Gundy era. It put up over 350 passing yards and 200 more on the ground.
In fact, that has only happened 10 times since Gundy took over in 2005, and nine of those (including Saturday against Tech) have resulted in wins. Here’s a look at the 10 instances in which the Cowboys have put up 350+ through the air and 200+ on the ground.
| Year | Opponent | Result | Pass Yards | Rush Yards |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2017 | Texas Tech | W | 376 | 221 |
| 2016 | Texas Tech | W | 395 | 210 |
| 2015 | Kansas | W | 381 | 202 |
| 2012 | Iowa State | W | 415 | 210 |
| 2012 | Louisiana | W | 412 | 330 |
| 2012 | Arizona | L | 436 | 200 |
| 2011 | Louisiana | W | 458 | 208 |
| 2010 | Baylor | W | 435 | 290 |
| 2010 | Texas Tech | W | 356 | 225 |
| 2008 | Iowa State | W | 419 | 263 |
I’m actually surprised there haven’t been more 350-200 games given Gundy’s appetite for balance. The only loss here was that 22-turnover game at Arizona in 2012 that ended at 3 a.m.
Carson pointed this out on our podcast on Tuesday, but OSU dominated the game against Tech. Dominated. It’s clear by every metric except the scoreboard. There are multiple ways to look at something like that, of course, but Oklahoma State’s offensive brilliance is undeniable.
“Yeah, that’s why we weren’t really tripping out there because we knew we could go down, we knew we could march down the field, and we just had find a way to get him in the end zone,” said Marcell Ateman after the game. “We just stayed poised. We just knew next time we were just going to have to get in there.”
