Alex Dieringer Wins Outstanding Ukrainian Memorial
Alex Dieringer traveled to Kiev, Ukraine to take on some of the world’s best in the Outstanding Ukrainian Wrestlers and Coaches Memorial this weekend and won the tournament in dominant fashion.
The former Cowboy wrestled at 79 kilograms and was the only American to bring home a gold. Dieringer knocked off four of the top twenty wrestlers in the world in the process, including Olympic Bronze Medalist Jabrayil Hasanov of Azerbaijan in the final.
There aren’t a ton of guys in wrestling media that specifically cover international wrestling, but Seth Petarra does it as good as any. And he came away impressed by the former Poke.
Alex Dieringer was one of the biggest stand out performances so far from the U.S. at the International Ukrainian tournament. Took out the number seventeen, sixteen, seven, and five ranked guys in the world in dominant fashion

Dieringer dominated and looked as good as I’ve ever seen him since college. This was a big win for him, but ultimately the goal for him will be to make world and Olympic teams and try and medal there.
Dieringer will have some stiff competition when going for that world team spot in Kyle Dake, who has had Dieringer’s # the last few years. He’ll also likely have to deal with PSU standout Mark Hall and potentially ASU sophomore and #1 ranked 174 pounder Zahid Valencia. I feel he’d be favored pretty comfortably over the college guys. You have to think he can go with Dake after what we saw this weekend though. Hasanov is ranked higher in the world rankings than Dake currently and Dieringer didn’t beat him in any fluky manner. He looked like the better wrestler.
Here’s Dieringer beating one of the best wrestlers in the entire world in about one minute. If you scroll through this YouTube page you can watch all of his matches from this weekend.
Complete results from the tournament are here.
