All-Sports Update: Cowgirl Soccer Drops Big 12 Opener, Softball Opens Fall Slate
The best from the rest of OSU athletics.
Equestrian and fall softball got started in Stillwater this past week.
Those two sports and the Oklahoma State soccer team were all in action. And the Cowboy golf team is sitting in second at the Nike Golf Collegiate at the time of this writing. Here is a roundup of some of the action from this weekend.
Cowgirl Soccer Team Loses for first time this Season
The Cowgirl soccer team started its Big 12 slate with a loss, OSU’s first of the season.
The Cowgirls fell to Texas Tech 1-0 on Thursday in Lubbock. The game’s goal didn’t come until the 64th minute when Demi Koulizakis scored her third goal of the season. The Cowgirls got three shots on target to Tech’s two but couldn’t get one in.
On Sunday, OSU finished its Texas road trip with a game in Fort Worth against TCU, where the teams battled to a 1-1 draw.
The game was scoreless until the the 82nd minute when TCU’s Yazmeen Ryan netted her fifth goal of the season. With time ticking away, OSU sophomore Ally Jackson netted her first goal of the season off a Jaci Jones assist to force overtime, where no team scored.
The Cowgirls again won the shot battle, putting eight on target, but TCU goalkeeper Emily Alvarado was able to save seven of them.
OSU hosts Kansas and Kansas State this weekend, starting with the Jayhawks at 7 p.m. Thursday. That game will be on ESPN+. The Wildcats will be in Stillwater at 1 p.m. Sunday.
OSU Softball Starts Fall Schedule with Victory
The OSU softball team scored double digits to start its fall schedule.
The Cowgirls beat Wichita State 10-4 on Sunday in a 10-inning game. Virginia Tech transfer Carrie Eberle started in the circle for OSU. The reigning ACC Pitcher of the Year threw for five innings where she allowed two runs off six hits while striking out three.
Four Cowgirls had multiple-hit games in freshman Karli Petty, sophomore Mady Lohman, junior Hayley Busby and sophomore Taylor Tuck.
Busby opened the game’s scoring with a first-inning solo home run. It was the only round-tripper of the day.
OSU will host Tulsa on Friday in Game 2 of the Cowgirls’ eight-game fall schedule.
Cowgirl Equestrian Tops South Dakota State in Home Opener
The No. 4 OSU equestrian team is 2-1 after a home-opening win this weekend.
The Cowgirls defeated South Dakota State 13-7 on Friday in Stillwater. OSU’s only loss of the season came Sept. 20 against No. 1 Auburn.
OSU’s next meet is Oct. 18 in Stillwater against defending Big 12 champion Baylor.
