The numbers are actually a little staggering. Since the Leonard Hamilton era, never has a freshman class been asked to carry this much of the load in a basketball season.

Here are the 20 highest percentages of total points (as a percentage of their team’s total scoring) scored by freshman in the last 23 years .

1) 20.2% Nash, LeBryan ’12 (Fr)
2) 19.4% Anderson, James ’08 (Fr)
3) 16.0% Peterson, Adrian ’96 (Fr)
4) 15.6% Houston, Byron ’89 (Fr)
5) 15.0% McFarlin, Ivan ’02 (Fr)
6) 14.8% Williams, Corey ’89 (Fr)
7) 12.0% Curry, JamesOn ’05 (Fr)
8 ) 11.9% Williams, Brian ’12 (Fr)
9) 11.1% Eaton, Byron ’06 (Fr)
10) 10.7% Reeves, Bryant ’92 (Fr)
11) 10.6% Page, Keiton ’09 (Fr)
12) 9.5% Alexander, Darwyn ’89 (Fr)
13) 9.1% Brown, Markel ’11 (Fr)
15) 8.8% Thomas, Ibrahima ’08 (Fr)
15) 7.8% Guerrero, Cezar ’12 (Fr)
16) 7.7% Cobbins, Mike ’12 (Fr)
17) 6.5% Muonelo, Obi ’07 (Fr)
18) 6.5% Mason, Desmond ’97 (Fr)
19) 6.5% Skaer, Jason ’95 (Fr)
20) 6.2% Harris, Terrel ’06 (Fr)

There has only been one other year (1989) when this was much was asked of a freshman class. That year Byron Houston, Corey Williams, and Darwyn Alexander were responsible for 40% of the scoring.

These freshmen are beating that away though with Williams, Nash, Guerrero, and Cobbins carrying nearly 45% by themselves, not to mention what Soucek tosses in.

Big thanks to OKC Dave on the research for this post, outwitting me with data and statistics, per the usual.
