Barry Switzer on Oklahoma State: ‘They’ll Get Their Ass Beat Again’

Ah, football season. It is the best.

Former Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer was interviewed by the Dallas Morning News this week about the Big 12, Texas and the Oklahoma State Cowboys. His comments? On brand. He said it doesn’t matter who’s coaching OU.

“I think Oklahoma’s still without a doubt – they’re not what they have been, but they’re close and getting closer and think they’re going to be the best team in the Big 12 this year,” Switzer told the Dallas Morning News.

Then he was asked about Mike Gundy’s squad.

“They’ll get their ass beat again just like every other time,” Switzer told the DMN.

Whooooo boy, put it in my veins!

“What? It’s the truth,” added Switzer. “They always get shot in the rear end… We’re the best team here, going to get the best players in the state and Gundy’s improved because of Texas recruitment. They’ve done a good job of getting players and selecting guys that aren’t really blue-chip players in high school [but] there’s talent there that they evaluate right.”

I don’t know about “always” — 2011 happened, Barry — but he also has a point. OU has continued to more or less own Oklahoma State despite Oklahoma State’s rise to national prominence. Here’s to hoping that will end with the reign of Riley, and a Big 12 championship trophy will be carted into Heritage Hall this offseason.
