Baseball Preview: Infielders
Yesterday we looked at OSU’s litany of catchers, today we’re going to look at how the infield is shaping up.
Here are the seven guys on the roster listed at infield positions.
[table id=94 /]
Robbie Rea is the returning star — he was second team All-Big 12 last year and led the team in batting average and multi-hit games. He also attended Cowley County Community College (a Scattergories all-star move if you roll “C” for “schools”).
Rea hit .256 over the summer in the Coastal Plain League. He will make the move from second base to be the Pokes’ everyday third baseman.
After that it gets a little dicier.
Randy McCurry’s brother, Brendan will probably get the nod at 2B to replace Rea. Tanner Krietemeier will most likely start at 1B — and he has Big 12 experience, starting his career at Nebraska.
Coach’s son, Donnie Walton, will play SS — as I presume he is there more for his glove than his stick considering one of his biography notes on okstate.com is “committed just five errors in 133 chances at shortstop” with no hitting stats listed.
Robbie Rea did this last year…and it was awesome.
And Donnie Walton is in the YouTube hall of fame for this…
