Kyle Boone already put up a solid preview of OSU’s matchup against Virginia Tech. Here are a few other notes thoughts on the Big 12’s bowl lineup:
- For the first time since 2012, the Big 12 is sending eight teams to bowl games (80 percent). They are the only conference to send 80 percent of it’s teams to bowls.
- This year’s lineup features three matchups of ranked teams; No. 19 Oklahoma State vs. No. 22 Virginia Tech, No. 3 Oklahoma vs. No. 2 Georgia, and No. 15 TCU vs. No. 13 Stanford. Iowa State will also face off against No. 20 Memphis.
- Four opponents have top-20 offenses: Memphis (No. 4), Missouri (No. 7), South Florida (No. 9), UCLA (No. 19).
- The combined record of opponents is 49-29 (62.8 percent)
- Kansas, who hasn’t been bowling since 2008, now has the longest active bowl drought in the FBS.
- This is the second time since they left the conference that Missouri will face a Big 12 team in a bowl game (OSU 2013).
- With TCU missing the a NY6 bowl, there weren’t enough regular Big 12 bowl affiliations for all the teams, thus Texas Tech will play in the Birmingham Bowl.
- Oklahoma will make the Big 12’s second playoff appearance.
