Big 12 Update: Kansas Almost Beat Texas in Football
The Mad Hatter nearly did it.
It almost happened again.
Texas and Kansas is bordering on a rivalry game. It was one of a full slate of Big 12 games this weekend. Here is a recap of the league’s action.
No. 5 Oklahoma 52, West Virginia 14
The most controversial thing to happen in this game was the Sooner Schooner topple. Everyone was OK.

Jalen Hurts did what a Heisman hopeful should do against a lesser team. Oklahoma’s quarterback went 16-for-17 for 316 passing yards and three passing touchdowns. He ran for another 75 yards and two scores.
In his return to OU after his transfer, West Virginia quarterback Austin Kendall had an admirable game, throwing for 182 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
No. 18 Baylor 45, Oklahoma State 27
The unbeaten Bears trailed at the half, but Baylor outscored Oklahoma State 35-14 in the second half.
Baylor beat the Cowboys with chunk plays, as three BU receivers had catches of more than 60 yards. Baylor running back JaMycal Hasty also scored on a 73-yard run.
After throwing three interceptions last week, Baylor quarterback Charlie Brewer went 13-for-17 for 312 passing yards and two total touchdowns Saturday.
It was another rough game for OSU QB Spencer Sanders. Sanders had three turnovers, making it eight turnovers for the redshirt freshman in his past two games.
Iowa State 34, Texas Tech 24
The Brock Purdy/Breece Hall combination the Cyclones have is starting to look scary.
Purdy threw for 378 yards and three touchdowns Saturday, and Hall, a freshman running back, had 19 carries for 183 yards and two scores. Hall also had a 62-yard catch-and-run against the Red Raiders.

Oklahoma native Charlie Kolar, brother of former OSU quarterback John Kolar, had a nice day, catching three passes for 79 yards and two scores.
The Red Raiders relied heavily on Jett Duffey, who played OK, completing 40 of his 52 (!!) pass attempts for 239 yards and a touchdown.
Kansas State 24, TCU 17
Kansas State got the first Big 12 victory of the Chris Kleiman era this weekend.
Skylar Thompson scored a go-ahead touchdown with less than three minutes to go before TCU marched down to the K-State 37. However, the Horned Frogs were unable to convert on a fourth-down.
It was a quarterback vs. quarterback battle. Both QBs were their team’s leading rusher. Thompson had 240 total yards and three total touchdowns, and TCU’s Max Duggan had 247 yards and one touchdown.

A blocked and returned PAT was all that separated Texas and lowly Kansas.

Keaontay Ingram scored with 2:47 to go to give the Longhorns a 47-40 lead, but Les Miles’ Jayhawks marched right back down the field.
On fourth-and-five on the KU 42, Carter Stanley hit Kwamie Lassiter for 36 yards. Then on the next play, Stanley threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Stephon Robinson. With 1:11 to go, Miles decided to go for 2 and the lead, and he got it.

But in a game where 95 total points had already been scored, the Jayhawks left too much time on the clock. Sam Ehlinger led Texas down the field and set up a 33-yard Cameron Dicker game-winner.
Ehlinger threw for 399 yards and four touchdowns. He ran for another 91 yards.
Stanley also had a nice game, throwing for 310 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. Pooka Williams ran for 190 yards and two scores.
