Big 12 Update: Mountaineers, Horned Frogs Victorious in Tightly-Contested Weekend

Two-point conversions and extra points proved to be big deals this week in Big 12 football.

A single point decided two of the conference’s games. Two others were decided within five points. Here is a recap of Big 12 action from Week 10.

No. 7 Oklahoma 51, Texas Tech 46

It was your average Oklahoma/Texas Tech game where there were 1,156 yards of total offense.

Kyler Murray accounted for 460 of those, throwing for 360 and running for 100. He also threw three touchdowns and ran for another. Murray did have an uncharacteristic two interceptions, though.

Jett Duffey replaced Alan Bowman after Bowman left the game with trouble breathing. The pair of Tech quarterbacks combined for 366 passing yards and four touchdowns. Duffey ran for another 47 yards and a score.

The Red Raiders had a chance to tie the game late on a two-point conversion, but this happened:

Turns out OU sophomore running back Trey Sermon is a stud. Sermon ran for 206 yards and three scores Saturday.

No. 13 West Virginia 42, No. 17 Texas 41

With 16 seconds left, rather than playing for overtime, the Mountaineers decided they wanted to hit the country roads.

Will Grier hit Gary Jennings for a 33-yard touchdown with 16 ticks remaining putting the score at 41-40 Texas. West Virginia decided to go for two, and Grier took it in himself.

Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger went blow-for-blow with Grier. Ehlinger had a high completion percentage, more passing yards and Ehlinger was responsible for one more touchdown than Grier was. But, Grier won the game.

No. 24 Iowa State 27, Kansas 3

Since Brock Purdy took over the Cyclone offense in Stillwater, Iowa State is 4-0. Against Kansas on Saturday, Purdy threw for 263 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

A bittersweet moment took place late, as senior quaterback Kyle Kempt returned to the field for the Cyclones after getting injured against Iowa in Week 2. Kempt threw one pass, and it was completed for 10 yards.

TCU 14, Kansas State 13

A missed extra point with 9:46 remaining felled Kansas State.

The Wildcats’ odd quarterback cycle continued against the Horned Frogs, as Alex Delton filled in for a banged up Skylar Thompson. Delton was 15-for-25 with 155 yards, a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown.

TCU quarterback Michael Collins threw for 218 yards and a touchdown. Jalen Reagor caught a go-ahead score with the ensuing extra point ended up being a game-winner.
