Big 12 Update: OSU Beats Texas, Kansas Does the Same to … TCU?

The Big 12 had a full slate of games this week.

Pretenders were exposed, Purdy magic lived on and Kansas football picked up its first win in October since 2009. Here’s a recap of the Big 12 games from Week 9.

No. 6 Texas 35, OSU 38

Oh yeah, that definitely wasn’t a dream.

No. 13 West Virginia 58, Baylor 14

Baylor’s starting quarterback Charlie Brewer went a less-than-ideal 1-for-8 with 22 yards and three interceptions before getting pulled. His QBR was .1. That should be enough of a recap for you, but I’ll continue.

Will Grier has a nice bounce-back performance after falling to Iowa State’s Purdy good team. Grier had 352 passing yards and three touchdowns. WVU wide receivers David Sills and Gary Jennings each had 100+-yard receiving performances and each had two touchdowns.

Jalan McClendon replaced Brewer and went 16-for-21 for 183 yards, no passing touchdowns and no interceptions. He also had 22 rushing yards and a touchdown.

No. 8 Oklahoma 51, Kansas State 14

I’m not sure Oklahoma State’s loss against Kansas State will turn into a “quality loss” anytime soon.

The Sooners had 702 total yards against the Wildcats. Kyler Murray was efficient as usual. He was 19-for-24 with 352 passing yards and three passing touchdowns. He also added 46 rushing yards and another score.

Oklahoma freshman running back Kennedy Brooks had only five carries, but 94 rushing yards, thanks in no small part to this 86-yard touchdown run.

But wait, there are more big plays as Murray found CeeDee Lamb for this 82-yard touchdown.

Lamb finished with 160 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Iowa State 40, Texas Tech 31

In a battle of freshmen quarterbacks who smacked around the OSU defense, Iowa State’s Brock Purdy got the better of Texas Tech’s Alan Bowman.

While Bowman had more passing yards (323) than Purdy (250), Bowman threw only one touchdown and was picked off three times while Purdy threw for two scores and no interceptions.

Purdy’s play has also enabled star running back David Montgomery. Montgomery ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns on his 33 carries.

Kansas 27, TCU 26
