New Big 12, same chaos. Some things never change.

The Big 12 had its first full slate of conference action since adding Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah. Arizona was off while Utah and Colorado got wins and ASU dropped its conference opener. Although new to the league, the Utes were voted as the conference favorites in the preseason and they backed that up with a 22-19 win against Oklahoma State on Saturday in a game that seemed to have early title game implications. You can read all about that game on PFB, including the recap here. You can read about what happened throughout the rest of the Big 12 below.

Cincinnati 34, Houston 0

Houston might be the punching bag of the Big 12 this season. Cincinnati had no issues with improving to 3-1 while the Cougars dropped to 1-3. Houston had only 233 total yards of offense while failing to score a point.

Cincy has to go to Texas Tech next while Houston hosts No. 18 and undefeated Iowa State.

West Virginia 32, Kansas 28

After a lengthy weather delay in Morgantown, the Mountaineers scored a pair of unanswered touchdowns to notch a comeback. The deciding factor was a 15-yard TD pass from Garrett Greene to Rodney Gallagher III with 26 seconds left. Greene did damage with his arm and legs, throwing for 295 yards and a pair of TDs while also leading his team in rushing with 87 yards and a score. His flaw was two interceptions, though.

It’s been a disappointing season so far for 1-3 Kansas, and the Jayhawks host TCU on Saturday. WVU, meanwhile, gets a bye week before traveling to Stillwater.

Iowa State 52, Arkansas State 7

After an early bye week, Iowa State finished up its nonconference slate against Arkansas State. The Cyclones will enter conference play now at 3-0 against a weak Houston team on Saturday.

Texas Tech 30, Arizona State 22

The Red Raiders handed Arizona State its first loss of the season in the Sun Devils’ first-ever Big 12 game. Both teams finished the game at 3-1.

Tech will have another tough test with Cincy coming to Lubbock on Saturday. ASU gets a break before hosting Kansas.

SMU 66, TCU 42

Defense is just a suggestion.

There was a shootout in the DFW area with 855 total yards of offense combined. SMU scored the first 17 points of the game in the first quarter before there was a scoring exploding in the second quarter.

TCU dropped to .500 at 2-2 and will now head to Kansas.

Colorado 38, Baylor 31

This one came down to former OSU running back Dominic Richardson fumbling the ball at the goal line to give Colorado its first Big 12 win.

Shedeur Sanders hit LaJohntay Wester for a 43-yard TD pass as time expired to send the game to overtime. Colorado then punched it in from the one in overtime before holding Baylor. Although he didn’t get in the end zone, two-way player Travis Hunter was still a star, catching seven passes for 130 yards.

Coach Prime now has Colorado at 3-1 with a trip to 3-0 UCF up next. Baylor, meanwhile, will host BYU on Saturday morning.

BYU 38, Kansas State 9

The Big 12 slate ended with the biggest upset of the weekend in some Big 12 After Dark action. The previously unranked Cougars blew visiting K-State away after starting the game down 6-0. BYU then scored 31 unanswered points to run away with the game and into the top 25.

Picked second and third, respectively, in the preseason Big 12 poll, K-State and OSU will now meet in Manhattan coming off losses to start conference play. The loser will have a loooong road to Arlington. BYU, though, is 4-0 with a trip to Baylor next.
