Billy Walton Decommits from OSU Following Official Visit to Texas
Walton: gone.

Oklahoma State officially lost a commitment from a rising star in its 2023 recruiting class on Monday as three-star defensive end talent Billy Walton, on the heels of an official visit to Texas over the weekend, announced he has decommitted from the Cowboys. Walton announced the news on Twitter after a weekend full of swirling rumors suggesting he was likely to flip his pledge to OSU’s Big 12 foe.
“I want to give thanks to the whole OSU staff that believed in me and gave me the opportunity of a lifetime,” said Walton. “Thank you Coach Gundy, Coach Richmond, Coach Britz and the rest of the staff at OSU . . . With that being said, after a long conversation with my family and friends, I have decided to de-commit from Oklahoma State University.”
The writing was on the wall here with Walton leading to his decommitment decision. He was mostly quiet on social media over the weekend before tweeting out the horns up emoji. He then tweeted out the following (which is a pretty wild decision to do while committed to another school! But I digress!)
So yeah, that’s pretty much that. Walton gone. Not a huge surprise, as we teased earlier in the day, but not a great development losing a commitment — and especially one to a Texas program that’s gained a ton of recruiting momentum here in recent weeks.
OSU now bumps down to nine commitments in its 2023 class and has zero from the position Walton was projected to play: defensive end. Two of the nine are defensive linemen, one is a linebacker, one is a corner and the rest are offensive recruits.
