Brad Underwood has made his first staff hire as the Oklahoma State head coach. According to multiple media reports, Underwood has hired South Carolina’s Lamont Evans – a former Kansas State staffer.

Evans served as a student assistant from 2008-2011 before moving into an assistant coach role in the 2011-2012 season, and was entering his fourth season at South Carolina as the assistant coach per the athletics website.

Frank Martin speaks very highly of Evans, who earned his Bachelors degree from Kansas State in 2009.

Here’s what Martin said about Evans via gamecockonline.com:

He is very well connected in the world of grassroots basketball and has a great knowledge of the game.

Furthermore, Evans’ main job description on the website consists of working with the group of guards, helping coordinate team practices, and opponent scouting and recruiting.

Evans made stops at Drake, Seminole Junior College, and St. Catharine College in his college days before playing professionally in the USBL, and for teams internationally with Slovenia, Germany, Finland, Belgium, and Venezuela.
