Brandon Weeden Throws Two Touchdowns in Texans Preseason Win
Brandon Weeden has used NFL training camp to solidify his standing as QB2 behind franchise building block Deshaun Watson, and Thursday he firmed up his spot with an impressive outing in the Houston Texans’ first preseason game of the year.
Weeden led the opening scoring drive of the night for H-town, converting a third-and-4 from the 6-yard line into a TD pass to Jordan Akins to get the Texans on the board first. And it was a rocket to the front corner of the paydirt.

The next score of the game came in the second quarter again behind the rocket launcher of Weeden’s arm. Again he found Akins, this time streaking across the field for an easy score from just inside the red zone.

Weeden finished 9-of-11 passing on the night with a 143.0 quarterback rating, well ahead of Joe Webb, who converted 6-of-13 passes, logged zero touchdowns, and finished with a 58.5 quarterback rating.
The Texans won the game, 17-10, and face the 49ers on Aug. 18 for Game 2 of their preseason slate.
