This weekend, Spencer Sanders and Brennan Presley connected for their fifth touchdown.

To this point all of those have gone from Sanders to Presley, but there was almost TD connection No. 6 between the two, one that would’ve went from Presley to Sanders.

In the fourth quarter of Oklahoma State’s 32-24 victory against Texas, the Cowboys ran an attempted throw back. Sanders tossed the ball to Presley behind the line of scrimmage, and Presley threw it back to Sanders. But, the ball landed short and incomplete. There was a wall of offensive linemen in front of Sanders and few Texas defenders. It just wasn’t meant to be.

“We’ve been working on that play for like three, four weeks,” Presley said Tuesday. “It’s just so much different in the game. In practice, I had time. I get in the game, he called the play and I caught it, and all I wanted to do was get it out as fast as possible. I was like, ‘I don’t want to get sacked. I don’t want to get strip-sacked. I don’t want to throw a pick.’ I was just thinking too much about it. I can make that throw. Trust me, I can throw. I can throw.”

It wasn’t the first time an OSU receiver has throw a pass. In the past five seasons, OSU receivers have thrown five passes, completing three for 24 yards.

Dillon Stoner was the last Cowboy receiver to record a passing attempt, doing so in 2019. It was incomplete.

The 2018 season was a good one for passing pass-catchers. Stoner and Tylan Wallace combined to go 3-for-3 that season for the 24 yards.

For Presley, at least Saturday didn’t go as poorly as Jalen McCleskey’s pass attempt in 2017. With OSU driving in the fourth quarter against TCU, OSU took the ball out of Mason Rudolph’s hands and had McCleskey throw. It was intercepted. OSU lost that game 44-31. McCleskey’s passer efficiency rating was -200.

Only a sophomore, Presley said he hopes he gets another shot at it. He also said he has a newfound appreciation for what Sanders has to do on a daily basis.

“I told him I couldn’t see the rush,” Presley said. “Like, I’m not trying to look down the field and then look back. I’m trying to catch it, take a couple steps and I’m trying to see if he’s open. I was like, ‘Is the rush coming?’ That stuff is hard. I see why they get paid a lot.”
