Cade Cunningham Makes History with Triple-Double in Win over Knicks
Cade is the first Piston to produce a triple-double at the Garden.
The current location of Madison Square Garden, basketball’s mecca, opened in 1968. Since then, only once has a Detroit Piston recorded a triple-double there. That happened Saturday night.
Cade Cunningham scored a team-high 29 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out a career-high 15 assists pushing the Pistons to a 120-111 win on the road in the Garden. He had 21, five and nine in the first half alone. The former Oklahoma State All-American went 9-for-17 from the field and made five of his eight 3-point attempts. He finished with a plus-16 in plus/minus.

The impressive performance helped break Detroit’s 16-game losing streak against New York, but it continued an individual hot streak for Cade who has recorded 10 or more assists in six-straight games. Over the last seven games, he’s averaging 25.3 points, 10.9 assists and 7.6 rebounds while shooting 47% from 3. Coming into this game, Cade was averaging 23.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and ranked fourth in the league averaging 9.1 assists per game. This was his seventh career triple-double.
Cade and the Pistons earned a nice break for their efforts. They’ll reconvene in Boston for a matchup with the Celtics Thursday at 6:30 p.m. CST.
