Cade Cunningham is getting closer to another honor that no Cowboy has ever received before.

Cunningham was named a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award on Monday. The award is given out annually to the best point guard in college basketball. No Oklahoma State player has ever won the award, though Marcus Smart was a finalist in 2013.

Here are the 2021 finalists:

Jared Butler, Baylor
McKinley Wright IV, Colorado
Marcus Zegarowski, Creighton
Scottie Barnes, Florida State
Jalen Suggs, Gonzaga
Ayo Dosunmu, Illinois
Carlik Jones, Louisville
Marcus Carr, Minnesota
Cade Cunningham, Oklahoma State
Collin Gillespie, Villanova

As a freshman, Cunningham leads the Big 12 in scoring at 17.8 points per game. The preseason All-American is also averaging 6.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.2 steals and one block a contest.

Cunningham has a ridiculous list of honors. He was the No. 1 prospect in the 2020 high school class. He won the Naismith High School Player of the Year Award as a senior at Montverde Academy in Florida. Along with being a preseason All-American and a preseason All-Big 12 selection, Cunningham has won the Big 12’s Newcomer of the Week award three times this season.

Previous winners of the Cousy Award include Ja Morant (2019), Frank Mason (2017), Shabazz Napier (2014), Kemba Walker (2011) and Raymond Felton (2005).

The list of 10 will be trimmed to five in March. The winner of the award will be announced April 9.
