The Cowboys have proven over the years that they’re not afraid to look to the West for a quarterback.

Oscar Rios, a class of 2026 QB from California, announced on Tuesday that he received an offer to Oklahoma State. Rios is the No. 145 player in the country, according to 247Sports, which makes him the No. 8 quarterback in the class.

Out of Downey, California, which is in the Los Angeles area, Rios threw for 2,554 yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior with just six interceptions. He also ran for another 735 yards and 11 more scores. As a sophomore in 2023, Rios threw for 2,633 yards and 23 touchdowns while running for 767 yards and seven scores. He’s listed at 6-foot-3, 175 pounds.

With the numbers he’s put up over the past few seasons, his 6-3 frame and his ability to run, it should come as no surprise that OSU isn’t the only school interested. Rios has also announced offers to Auburn, Arizona State, Nebraska, Utah, Washington, Arizona, Kansas and others.

OSU has had success bringing in quarterbacks from California in the not too distant past. Rising redshirt freshman Maealiuaki Smith came out of Sacramento. Dru Brown (still playing in the CFL) came from San Mateo. And OSU also brought in the likes of Shane Illingworth (Norco) and Brendan Costello (San Clemente) from The Golden State within the past decade.

Oklahoma State’s new-look staff has hit the recruiting trail hard in recent weeks, with a lot of high schoolers announcing offers from the new staff. Rios joins Bowe Bentley as 2026 quarterbacks who have recently announced offers. OSU head coach Mike Gundy has also been hitting the trail, spending the first few days of this week going around to Oklahoma high schools and visiting prospects. He’s been in the north DFW area Wednesday recruiting.
